Hi everyone, I'm from Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland. I am against wind turbines but not against less invasive renewable energy as long as it does not have a detrimental impact on humans or the environment.
Our area (and the rest of Scotland) is being inundated by unscrupulous wind farm developers. The main industries in our area are tourism and farming. I live on the edge of the Dark Sky Park and the Unesco Biosphere in a Regional Scenic Area on the edge of Wigtown Bay. There are many nature reserves here, vast amounts of unspoilt wild land and many sites of archaeological interest (standing stones, stone circles, burnt mounds, battle sites etc.).
We have personally battled against two windfarms on our immediate doorstep (both developers have now pulled out) and there are many more being proposed close at hand. We can currently count over 90 turbines on the horizon from our home (approx 40 miles away) which will now more than double after the recent approval of Kilgallioch (96 turbines). I now run the Facebook page for our local action group TW312.
It upsets me greatly that people are being made ill by these monstrosities and that the politicians are refusing to listen. I will fight with everything I have until this terrible policy is finished.
I believed in Anthropogenic Global Warming until June last year when I overheard someone say there was no such thing. I have since read 'Watermelons' by James Delingpole and 'The Real Global Warming Disaster' by Christopher Booker. These books introduced me to the Watts Up With That blog and Bishop Hill blog. If it wasn't for Michael Mann and his hockey stick graph (that has since been shown to contain deeply flawed data) none of this would have started and we would not be battling against wind farm development. CO2 is not a poison it is a beneficial gas that aids plant and food growth. Temperatures themselves have been at a standstill since 1998 (now admitted by the IPCC) even though CO2 is still rising, showing that the two are not linked. Solar activity is the driving factor for the climate.
As I sit here typing this up it is freezing cold with gale force easterly winds and a forecast of blizzards for most of the week. Because of the subsidies being paid out to wind farms from my electricity bill (over which I have no choice) I cannot afford to heat my home to a comfortable level. I am currently wearing numerous layers of clothes and a scarf around my neck indoors.
Since the day two wind farm developers pulled up outside our cottage (in March 2011) I have built up a vast knowledge from reading anything and everything every day and know what is going on all around the world, especially in Ontario, Australia and Germany. Never again will I be caught off guard.
